Idlewild Wines Sam Bilbro has teamed up with legendary Russian River winegrower David Drummond to make NE Italian wines, and I’m in love. The Poor Scholar is predominantly Schiava from David’s Las Cimas Vineyard, with all of the varietal’s lithe wild strawberry character and Russian River bay leaf and dusty hillside. It’s charming with a chill, but really generous with some air--like the open arms of community. I’d snag an extra bottle of this gem if I were you; otherwise I might drink it all myself.
